Schelotto to remain with Crew as designated player
The 2008 Major League Soccer Cup Champion Columbus Crew announced on Tuesday that they have exercised the option year on the contract of reigning league and MLS Cup MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto. The move makes him the club's first designated player.
Red Bulls, Sounders FC to open 2009 MLS season
Major League Soccer announced the schedule for the first few weeks of the 2009 season, which kicks off on Thursday, March 19 in Seattle. MLS Philadelphia breaks ground on new soccer-specific stadium
Philadelphia's new Major League Soccer team broke ground on a soccer-specific stadium in Chester, where the team will begin play in 2010, on Monday. MLS Commissioner Don Garber joined with team, and local and state officials along the Delaware River for the official ceremony, signaling the beginning of the construction for the 18,500-seat stadium.
