Jonathan Toews' goal with 1:35 left in
regulation lifted Chicago over Anaheim, 4-2, at the United Center.
After an errant Chicago shot sailed to the end boards and rebounded back out
into the slot, Dustin Byfuglien corralled the puck and shoved it back towards
the net. Kris Versteeg got control at the left side of the crease and slid a
pass into the paint for Toews for an easy tap-in.
"You just have to get your stick on those," said Toews. "I was pretty excited.
We were working hard and caused a few penalties, and right there, we said we
can win this game."
Dave Bolland added an empty-netter with nine seconds remaining to clinch the
win.
Patrick Sharp and Martin Havlat also lit the lamp for the Blackhawks, who
halted a three-game slide. Cristobal Huet made 30 saves for his fourth win of
the season.
Teemu Selanne and Chris Pronger scored for the Ducks, who have dropped two in
a row after winning four straight. Jonas Hiller took the loss despite a 37-
save performance.
"It seemed kind of lucky. They got the bounce," Hiller said. "It's kind of sad
to lose a game that way. On an experienced club like ours, those things
shouldn't happen. We had the lead until the end. What else do you want in a
road game. It was a bad, bad loss."
Anaheim took a 2-1 lead with 48 seconds gone in the third period. Pronger's
harmless wrist shot from the right point slipped through a screen in front and
past Huet.
Havlat knotted the game with 5:45 left in the contest, converting a cross-ice
feed from Duncan Keith with Chicago on a 5-on-4 power play.
Sharp put the Hawks on the board with 1:33 left in the first period, then
Selanne added a power-play score 9:24 into the second, as he placed his stick
on the ice in the low slot just in time to redirect Scott Niedermayer's
centering feed.
Game Notes
Former Blackhawk forward Steve Larmer (1980-93) was honored before the
contest. He played 884 consecutive games for Chicago from 1982 until a
contract dispute with the club during the 1993-94 season forced his trade to
the New York Rangers. The Ontario native scored all but 89 of his 1,012 career
points with Chicago...Ducks forward Brendan Morrison played in his 700th
career game...Selanne leads the NHL in power-play goals with 13.
